I'm Yurble, and I write music and play a bunch of instruments. You can listen to some of the music I've written on Bandcamp and write to me on the Contact Page if you want to commission me to write music or record session samples for your project.

I'm working on getting more formal demos produced for each instrument I play, but in the meantime, you can read about my experience as a multi-instrumentalist below while you listen to them in action on Bandcamp.

Session Instruments:

Piano

Piano is my primary tool for composing and expressing myself with sound. I have played by ear since early childhood, and spent ten years training in jazz and ragtime composition and improvisation. My style as a solo pianist is free-form and contemporary, mixing jazz and classical elements into pieces both deliberately and as an improvisational reflex. I often accompany myself singing, and so can facilitate a foreground or background sound presence in bookings at art gallery openings, porch festivals, jazz jams, and improv shows around the Hudson Valley.

Mountain Dulcimer

I began practicing Appalachian Dulcimer only as recently as 2023, but have installed it as a standard in my studio chamber due to its ergonomics in translating piano articulation to a strummed soundscape. After composing a commissioned score for Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, I practiced dulcimer daily at the New York Renaissance Faire alongside recorder and hurdy-gurdy, in solo and in ensembles. I have since started a small collection to write chamber music for a dulcimer ensemble, and feature it prominently in most of my original music.

Woodwinds

I mastered recorder and other fipple woodwinds during my many years in the third grade, and have most infamously used them as open-carry weapons as a street performer at the New York Renaissance Faire, where I played as a soloist and in ensembles. Recorders have become a favorite composing tool for melodies, and I've taken pride in baffling unwary listeners by demonstrating their prowess in small chamber orchestras for creating a whimsical sound with surprising beauty and flexibility.

Hurdy-Gurdy

I came to own a hurdy-gurdy during my time at the New York Renaissance Faire, and consider it a wonderful party piece to garner a more flexible and flavorful melodic drone than a bagpipe. It also has been an invaluable tool for experimentation and sampling soundscapes, so I turn to it when I want a traditional sound that nevertheless contains novelty.

Guzheng

I have been practicing Guzheng since 2023, and its huge breadth of tunings and articulation capacities have more than encouraged me to continue practicing both traditional Chinese performance techniques, and contemporary techniques that have helped the Guzheng establish its place in New Age ensembles around the world. Its calm and meditative sound has helped to ensure I never stop playing it, and it makes frequent appearances in my music, especially as the centerpiece of the original score I composed for "Little Tragedies", a collection of translated Pushkin tragedies, performed in 2024.

Synthesizer

I have played synthesizer in jazz ensembles since 2010, and for just as long used it as my mainstay controller for composing bedroom pop in my digital audio workspace. I have developed a strong ear for its functionality in creating high-quality samples to simulate live instrumentation, and have used it to perform live ambience and accompaniment for numerous art installations and live venues in the Hudson Valley. I enjoy its unmatched flexibility in creating electronic soundscapes, deep ensemble foundations, and manicured solo leads alike.

Accordion

Though recently added to my repertoire, I may have put more stage time playing piano accordion than any other instrument I perform live, now that it has become my standard solo busking accompaniment and pit orchestra instrument for musical theater gigs. I integrate accordion into my folk music most prominently, where its strength of bass chords and doubling of melodic lines can double the depth of sound of any ensemble it is a part of.

Guitar

Guitar and Ukulele are typically instruments I compose charts and sheet music for other musicians to play for my recordings, but I nevertheless try to maintain a command over their mechanics to ensure I can add them to an ensemble whenever it pleases the ear—which is, of course, quite often.
